The mountant of choice for diatoms
Brunel SP300 Biological Microscope
Exceptional phase contrast imaging
The Brunel SP300 trinocular microscope complies with the test slide reading required by the Health and Safety Executive for asbestos fibre counting which makes it exceptional in the world of phase contrast. These are robust industrial microscopes finished to a very high standard and with a very modern design. The light source is a Kohler LED unit integral to the base of the microscope. This makes the microscope an ideal instrument for phase contrast applications, and the trinocular SP300 is, we believe, the lowest priced phase contrast microscope that meets the HSE specification for asbestos fibre counting that is currently available and these specifications are exacting. We are confident therefore that whatever your phase contrast requirements are - particularly for diatom identification - this is the microscope that delivers. A particular feature is the large rectangular mechanical stage with drop down co-axial controls.
The SP300 can be specifically configured to provide excellent bright field optics with x4, x10, x20, x40 and x100 (oil) infinity corrected planachromatic objectives. Configured for phase contrast, the objectives are infinity corrected x4 plan bright field and x10, x20, x40 and x100 (oil immersion) plan phase contrast objectives together with an easy to operate Zernicke phase contrast condenser with matching phase rings. In addition, if the full range of phase is not required the SP300 can be provided with a slider phase system that fits the standard bright field condenser coupling phase objectives (x10 and x40) as a set or (x20 and x100). The extra wide field x10 eyepieces are excellent and have integral fitted eyecups.
The co-axial coarse and fine focus controls have a graduation reading in 2 microns for an estimate of depth measurement. The total focus range covers 35mm and the movement runs in extra wide precision ball-bearing hardened steel tracks. Tension adjustment and safety auto focus stop units are fitted as standard.
The specific feature of the Brunel SP300 microscope is the potential flexibility, both in optical performance and image capture systems. The stand below the trinocular head has a slot for the introduction of an analyser/ polarisation filter and the field lens has an indent for a polarising filter allowing basic polarisation examination of specimens.
We believe that at this budget there is no other microscope that can offer this flexibility and excellent results with phase contrast microscopy. There is an custom made carrying case with suitcase style handle and wheels which makes the SP300 truly portable. There is also a wide range of accessories.
